Something's wrong

I think this whole dissertation business that was going on for the last year was bad for me, indeed. I stepped on the scales today - and it is bad, very bad: 213.8 lbs. This is definitely way too much. It is not the highest number I've ever had, but still. I gained about 33 lbs within a year.

I've spent the last three days or so quieting down. Finally! (My defense will be in fall) And thought it over. If this is going on like it was the last year I will quit academia. I am applying for a post-doc grant, but I consider to quit. I think I will appreciate working in an office, like getting up at a reasonable time in the morning and having fixed times for the meals. And having free evenings and free week ends. Free time to socialize. This really sounds not that bad.

Hmmm...well good news on the dissertation front. Sorry to hear about the weight gain. I know that can is disappointing. So, what are you going to do?

heh, Mr. Jane and I, for the first time in ages, both had a weekend relatively free of work tasks, and our first reaction was "so THIS is how normal people spend their weekends! brilliant!" I definitely understand your feelings--the pull to have a "normal" existence and a "normal" job is sometimes very strong indeed!

I guess I will try to eat less and to do more sports. And I will try to avoid extra-large meals that I need when I am in a stress situation or when I feel bad.

Do you have any advice about the weight?

You're on the right track already! If you can, eat several meals throughout the day or have snacks that don't contribute to weight gain (fruit, low-calorie snacks).

Water! Drink it all day! Take a multi-vitamin each day and drink at least 1-2 glasses of fat-free milk (or get your dairy in each day).

If you really won't a comprehensive plan, look into Weight Watchers. I know they have international plans. Check it out! It really does work.

It has been noted by the NAACP and the Department of Defense that payday loan offices have strategically opened offices near military bases and in socio-economically disenfranchised areas where the demographic is largely African American and Hispanic. Many reputable financial institutions, consumer groups, and civil organizations are doing all they can to shut down payday loan offices, but their efforts to date have been largely unsuccessful.
