Yes, admittedly, a bad sign. But, on the other hand, the ex-sup sounds like a jerk.
So, let's consider the bright side. Had you not ditched this fellow as supervisor, it might be you locked in a room, avoiding contact with anyone. I assume this fellow is supposed to be a mature scholar - if he's hiding away, your better off just letting him simmer in his office.
But, free thoughts, and no doubt worth what you paid for them....
Sorry, none of my business really, but there is a clue in this behviour as to why it was a good idea to dump him. Well done.
